Apple Macintosh
The Apple Macintosh computer with the OS-X operating system is a joy to use. Unless you must use a PC for some other reason, and you can afford the higher price of the hardware, a Mac is the way to go. Unlike a Windows PC, Apple bundles almost everything you need with the computer purchase. The iLife software covers music iTunes, video iMovie and iDVD, digital photos iPhoto and together with all the other software there isn't much more you need to add. With the exception of the anti-virus software, all my suggestions here
are free of cost, and some are both free of cost as well as being 'open
source' software.

Anti-Virus Software
Norton
Anti-Virus
McAfee
Virex® Anti-Virus

Sadly, any computer
that connects to the net or receives e-mail must have a good anti-virus
program on it. I recommend either McAfee or Norton, both are good.
I prefer the retail boxed versions as opposed to the on-line services.
